The School of women and gender Studies (SWGS) is at the forefront of academic and community initiatives to address gender and development within the university, the nation and in Africa from an African perspective. SWGS has established itself as a leading training institute for women and men. It's experiences and expertise no doubt places the department in a good position to ensure that ICT skills are imparted to women as well as men.
SWGS seeks to contribute to the development in Uganda through ensuring that gender is an integral part of the development process. This involves among others, providing the intellectual leadership for mainstreaming gender in the aspect of Technology, within the university and beyond. In executing its mandate the SWGS works through a comprehensive strategy that includes teaching and training; research publication and dissemination; outreach; networking, advocacy and gender mainstreaming.
Currently the department offers the course ; Gender science and technology to the second year BA students. SWGS is a an approved Cisco Networking Local academy offering training for Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) and IT Essentials I & II.
