Event Details

The School of Women and Gender Studies invites you to the 3rd CHUSS seminar series scheduled for 18th May, 2018, 2:00PM - 4:00PM.

Venue: Conference Hall, School of Women and Gender Studies

Presenter: Prof. Peter Baguma

Topic: Instrumentation of Research

Abstract

Most researchers don’t think about instruments/apparatus or equipment when they want to do research. This has undermined the quality and utility of research and limited the number of manuscripts published. Probably this is one reason why most research is rotting on the shelves and is not believable by readers. About 80% of the research done stays on shelves while only 20% of research is ever translated into policy. To remedy this problem, this presentation defines an instrument and its objects of measurement and different types of instruments. Procedures of developing instruments, and desirable attributes of measuring instruments are given. Ways of achieving validity and reliability are discussed. Item analysis as well as pre-and post-data collection procedures of reliability analysis are explored as well computer assisted techniques of achieving reliability and validity of measuring instruments.

You are all welcome!
